Business startup ideas usually start with something you’re good at or something close to your heart. Some succeed faster than most while others seem to just falter as they go about their business. What’s wrong with this equation?
Entrepreneur home businesses nowadays are easy to get into primarily because of low startup costs. All you need is a desktop pc, a good internet connection, a $500-$1000 starting capital or less, a few software or e-books and internet knowledge and you’re good to go.
The drawback is if you do not know how to do proper research and competition analysis, you’re really doomed to fail right there from the start. Even if you have the greatest product or service in the planet but haven’t targeted the right niche market for it, no one’s going to buy from you and you’ll only end up being frustrated with the whole thing.
The other day while I was rummaging through my favorite websites something caught my attention regarding the topic of startup businesses with the title –
“Maybe You Can't Make Money Doing What You Love” by Seth Godin – and I quote:
“Doing what you love is as important as ever, but if you're going to make a living at it, it helps to find a niche where money flows as a regular consequence of the success of your idea. Loving what you do is almost as important as doing what you love, especially if you need to make a living at it. Go find a job you can commit to, a career or a business you can fall in love with.”
That being said, this brings me to another blog where there was a topic about whether or not to take on a job related to writing articles that pays peanuts. The blog owner emphatically emphasized not take the job offer because you would better of writing for someone else who would pay a much higher price.
Ok fine, but here’s the thing, if you’re not a well known writer and just starting out, haven’t published tons of reference material for your home business as an article writer, to put it bluntly, not (yet) an authority on the subject, even if you actually write the best copy in the world, will anyone pay you top dollar for your services? Your answer is as good as mine.
Profitable ideas that make money are always open to anyone especially in the internet. Making a business doing what you love is one of the most satisfying jobs in the world. To eventually reap the benefits of you labor is to do proper research in your chosen niche market and know your competition as well. This is the initial key to having success making money online doing what you love.
